The first stop of our travelling exhibition was Szeged, hosted at the Szeged Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The local Expert of the Exhibition was Dr. Anna Váraljai, the teacher of the University of Szeged. The prestigious venue, situated in the heart of the city, lent the exhibition a distinctly representative character. For each of the four cities featured, the exhibition presented their unique urban development through four large-format panels, sixteen panels in total. Guided tours were also offered alongside the exhibition, which remained open to the public free of charge until 3 November.
The exhibition’s promotion was supported by the Szeged Urban Planning Society and received widespread positive coverage in both professional and local media, including newspapers and journals, reaching tens of thousands of readers with its message.
At the opening, alongside the curator Máté Tamáska, András Oláh, a researcher at the Hungarian National Archives in Szeged, presented ongoing archival research on the city. Utilizing georeferenced digital maps, visitors could explore Szeged’s ring-road reconstruction and its relationship to the urban layout prior to 1879.
